Almost Full Moon
Recently I grabbed myself a new lens.
I’m kind of an all rounder when it comes to photography so having a versatile lens that I can use for basically anything is extremely important to me. I ended up going with a secondhand lens made by Tamron. Since I’m using a Canon R50, I only have a limited selection of native lenses available and the kinds of lenses I’m interested in can be pretty pricy so unless you go third party you’re going to be paying a lot. Canon only recently opened up the RF-mount system to aftermarket manufacturers, so even here the selection is fairly limited but I stumbled upon the Tamron 18-300mm F/3.5-6.3 Di III-A VC VXD Zoom Lens for a decent price on Amazon and figured I’d give it a go.
Overall, the lens ticks all my boxes, but it does become a little unwieldy when zoomed in to 300mm since the lens extends a good distance. After playing around with it I did get the hang of it though and I managed to snag this nice picture of the moon. My only real complaint with the lens is that it doesn’t seem to have a focus distance indicator on the screen, which is something I used a lot on my old lens (Canon RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 IS STM) to quickly tell if I am focused to infinity. Anyway… that’s the only downside I can think of with this lens so far.
I can really recommend this lens as a all-rounder daily, it’s perfect if a little long and unwieldy when fully extended.
